Our Mission

We are proud to provide a  preschool dedicated to enriching the spiritual, social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth of children through a loving, Christian environment.  For thirty years, the congregation of St. John Lutheran Church has encouraged the development and continuing growth of a preschool program that would serve the community. 

Our three teachers and four Foster Grandmas work diligently to ensure that the St. John Christian Preschool experience is a time of fun, warmth, and security.  We encourage each child to discover their own individuality through the exploration of the world around them.  From basic academic and social skills to continuous exposure to Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL), we are devoted to making sure that our preschoolers are well prepared for the new experiences they will encounter in kindergarten.

Our Classes

We offer a three day program for our older friends (at least 4 years old by September 15) who will attend kindergarten the following year.  These classes meet for 3 hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Our morning session meets from 8:15-11:15 and our afternoon session meets from  12:15-3:15. 

We also offer a two day program for our younger friends (3 years old by September 15).  These classes meet for 2 ½ hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Our morning session meets from 8:30 - 11:00 and our afternoon session meets from 12:30-3:00. 

Registration

A non-refundable $15 registration fee per semester is due at the time of registration.  You may choose to pay the registration fee per semester or for the entire year. 

Tuition

The two day monthly program fee is $60 for the Tuesday-Thursday classes.  The three day monthly program fee is $75 for the Monday-Wednesday-Friday classes.  Tuition is due on the child’s first class day of each new month. 

Scholarship and Grant Information

There is a grant program that offers partial financial assistance to families who qualify.  Information and applications can be obtained from any member of the preschool staff.

A limited scholarship fund has been established in the memory of one of St. John Christian Preschool’s most beloved teachers, Mrs. Cindy Zirbel.  This scholarship is open to one member of our three day program who is not receiving other tuition assistance.  Mrs. Zirbel was dedicated to creating a quality, Christian experience for the hundreds of children who enjoyed her teaching.  Through this scholarship we hope to continue her lifelong mission of spreading God’s love to all!

Licensing Information

Our preschool is licensed by the Iowa Department of Human Services.  All of our teachers are experienced in early childhood education and our director and assistant director both hold Bachelor’s Degrees in Elementary Education with endorsements in early childhood education and one endorsement in reading.

We have an open door policy at St. John Christian Preschool and encourage anyone to come and witness our ministry!  Our chairs might be a bit smaller, our rooms might be a bit louder, but we can ensure you that we are having a great time learning about ourselves, learning about others, and most importantly…learning about God’s love!
