My hometown is in Ness City, Kansas. After graduating high school, I attended Wartburg College to pursue a degree in Music Therapy and Music Education. My first teaching position was in Charles City, where I stayed for 21 years. For the next two years, I taught at Central DeWitt Intermediate School while my family stayed in the Charles City area. My husband, Josh, is currently teaching his 24th year in Charles City. My son, Blake, is a Freshman at Wartburg College and my daughter, Nathalia, is in 7th Grade. We currently reside on an acreage just outside of Greene where we enjoy raising chickens and fainting goats. I have always been part of the Lutheran Church ever since I was born. My mother was a church organist for three different Lutheran churches in Kansas for roughly 60 years, and my sister is a pastor at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE. I am so excited to be working at St. John Lutheran Church.

My family and I have lived in Janesville since 2018. My husband, Nick, and I have been married since May of 2016 and welcomed our son, Bellamy, into the world in 2017. We also have a baby in Heaven named Campbell. Our family enjoys spending time with our dog, Anastasia, and going disc golfing. I will finish the Children's and Youth Ministry Certification Program put on by Youth Ministry Consultants this winter and am excited to put into practice what I have learned!
Melanie Johanningmeier

Melanie is the primary organist, director of choirs, and coordinates special music. Melanie is originally from Monona, IA. She attended Wartburg College and received a bachelors degree in music education and music therapy. She taught music for 33 years at Nashua-Plainfield, retiring in May 2023. Melanie is a a piano accompanist for Charles City schools. Melanie is married to Eric and has two sons, Colin and Carter. Melanie enjoys traveling, reading, and attending fine arts events. Melanie is delighted to serve as the Director of Music and enjoys working with all those who share their talents to praise God.
