Children & Youth ministries

Confirmation

This program is for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders who desire to learn about what it means to be a young adult member of a congregation, and to reaffirm the promises made by their parents at Baptism. The three-year, university-style program teaches students about the Bible, the Small Catechism, Christian beliefs, and what it takes to become a mature Christian. Classes, service activities, and fellowship with their classmates build a strong bond in this learning environment. Classes meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 P.M. and are dismissed at 7:00 PM. The students take two “required” and two “elective” courses each year during the three years in the program. At Orientation, students enroll for one course during each five-week session. Affirmation of Baptism Service will be on October 8, 2023, during the Worship Service.

Occasional activities

Let’s be social, let’s serve the community, let’s have fun, let’s form lifelong Christian bonds. Occasionally, an activity is planned for middle school and high school students so that they can do something together as St. John kids; from gaga-ball to serving the community, to working at a food bank, to mission trips – we make this an enlightening, spiritual time. Oh… and we have FUN!

After School Program

A Wednesday After-School Program for St. John preschool and elementary age children (4-years-old through fifth grade). Snacks, videos, crafts, music, and playing are all a part of the afternoon activities. The After-School Program meets from October – May, and takes a break during Lent to allow families to worship together on Wednesday afternoons. Transportation from the Elementary Schools and Middle/High School is provided on the church bus for those wishing to ride.

Sunday School

From as early as 3-years-old to adults, St. John offers education opportunities on Sunday mornings. Students of all ages can learn from teachers and pastors. Classes are divided by grade levels, start in September and go until May. Sunday School classes are from 10:05am-11am. There are also bible studies offered for adults. Call the church and talk to Kathy or Laurie about registering your child for Sunday School.

VBS-ParkVacation Bible School

Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean being a good young Christian stops. VBS is a week-long summer event structured to engage students in Christian learning and FUN. Our VBS is so strong and popular that students from other congregations and other communities come to St. John to get involved in this summer program. This year VBS was June 26-29, from 5:30-7:30pm each evening.
